Can We Give More?

When Kate Botos explained her planned gift to her daughter, the response was a question: could they give more? Their conversation reflects a shared love of the arts and a desire to pass it on.

When Kate Botos told her daughter that part of her estate would support ArtsWave, she expected a conversation about what that meant. Her daughter’s response was simple: “Can we give more?”

By then, the arts were woven into their life together. Kate grew up singing, borrowing sheet music and watching musicals on VHS. In her own home, music and making things are everyday activities. She began giving to ArtsWave through her workplace when her daughter was small, and their shared outings have helped that love grow.

Now her daughter is often the one asking which show they will see next. Kate has also watched her enthusiasm develop through a playwriting camp, where initial reluctance gave way to excited accounts of the scenes she and other children were creating.

After her mother died, Kate felt a new urgency to act on giving plans she had long considered. Becoming a Visionary was a straightforward way to help other families have the experiences that mean so much to hers.

Her hope is for a future in which more people can participate, whatever their circumstances. Her daughter’s question suggests that the desire to make that possible is already being passed on.
