Our Turn to Carry It Forward

From singing in a school choir to helping others consider their legacies, Bill Montague has seen how the arts shape a community. His own planned gift puts those convictions into practice.

Bill Montague remembers taking part in the May Festival with his fourth-grade school choir.

Their role was small, but the experience stayed with him. So did a night at a Pops concert in Ault Park, when news of the end of Pete Rose’s hitting streak rippled through the audience. Cincinnati’s arts and civic life have long been intertwined in his memory.

An estate planning attorney, Bill helped clients think about what they wanted to leave to their families, their communities and the causes they loved. He and his wife, Kelly Wittich, brought that same thoughtfulness to their own plans, including a legacy gift to ArtsWave.

Bill values the artists who make their homes here as much as the performances they create. They become neighbors, support local businesses and contribute to the life of the city. He also wants young people to encounter the arts during the years when those experiences can help shape their futures.

The generosity of earlier Cincinnatians made much of that possible. Becoming a Visionary is Bill’s way of impacting for what comes next.
